About this tool
A video trimmer removes unwanted time from the beginning or end of a recording. Choose exact start and end values with the two-handle range control, type times in seconds or clock form, or move the preview player and use its current position. Fast mode copies existing streams, while Precise mode re-encodes for an exact cut.
Every cut runs in your browser with FFmpeg WebAssembly, so the original footage is not sent to a server. MP4, MOV, and M4V sources produce MP4 output, while WebM stays WebM. The first job downloads the media engine, and later jobs can reuse the cached copy. Fast cuts may begin at a nearby keyframe.
How to use the Video Trimmer
- 1Choose the video containing the segment you want to keep.
- 2Play the preview and set the start and end times.
- 3Select Fast copying or Precise re-encoding for the cut.
- 4Check the selected length before starting browser processing.
- 5Preview the trimmed result and download the newly named file.
Features
Two-handle video range
Adjust both boundaries on one slider while exact text fields show the chosen times.
Player-position shortcuts
Use the current preview position as either boundary without copying a timestamp manually.
Keyframe copy mode
Keep original streams for a quick cut when a nearby keyframe boundary is acceptable.
Exact video re-encoding
Create a precise MP4 segment with H.264 video, AAC audio, and a fast-start layout.
Matching common container
Retain WebM for WebM sources and use broadly compatible MP4 for MP4, MOV, and M4V input.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Fast and Precise trimming?
Fast mode copies the existing video and audio streams, which avoids a full encode but can move a boundary to the nearest keyframe. Precise mode re-encodes the selected section so the requested times can be followed more closely.
Which time formats can I type into the range fields?
Enter plain seconds such as 83.5, minutes and seconds such as 1:23.5, or an hours value such as 01:02:03. The start must remain before the end and inside the detected video duration.
What format will the trimmed video use?
MP4, MOV, and M4V sources are saved as MP4. A WebM source remains WebM in Fast mode, while a Precise WebM cut is re-encoded as MP4 with the supported H.264 and AAC encoders.
Why can a fast video cut start slightly early?
Compressed video stores complete pictures at keyframes and dependent pictures between them. Stream copying generally begins at a decodable keyframe, so the visible boundary can differ slightly from the exact value entered.
Is footage uploaded while I trim it?
No. The selected file, preview, FFmpeg work, and generated download stay in the browser. Closing the tab removes the page state and its temporary object URLs.
